MANCHESTER AND MALTA'S GRAND HARBOUR
PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION AND BOOK LAUNCH
This multi-site exhibition compared Malta's Grand Harbour with Manchester, a canal city, and culminated in a book.
The core are 25 paired photographs of both locations. The first three are shown in their entirety, along with the respective captions. All 25 are shown separately as pairs further down.
To some extent these collections are retrospectively informed by
the work of the famous photographer William Klein who produced photo-books about individual cities: New
York, Moscow, Rome, Tokyo and Paris.

Explaining the concept.
The book was launched on social media and on television during Lea
Hogg’s weekly program Life & Style Weekend. Lea interviewed the
author along with Jeffrey Buttigieg who was responsible for funding
this book’s design and printing via the RE/MAX & Friends Foundation.
Two former players were brought over for the book launch and for
the signing since they had written the book’s epilogue. Michael
Jamie Clegg, an English former professional footballer and Quinton Fortune who played for seven years with Manchester United from 1999. They were accompanied by Mark O’Connor, the President of the Manchester United Supporters Club of NSW, Australia.
With principal sponsor, Jeff Buttigieg, RE/MAX.
With Jeffrey Buttigieg, Co-Owner of RE/MAX Malta & JK Group at
A Tale of Two Cities: Manhattan and Valletta which was launched at
Auberge de Castille on 12th September hosted by the Office of the
Prime Minister.
The creation of this book (A Tale of Two Cities: Manchester and
Malta’s Grand Harbour) arose as a collaboration by the author and
Jeff, with the support of the RE/MAX & Friends Foundation, who
sponsored the design and print of this book. All profits will devolve to
the NGO Beating Hearts Malta.
We hope to launch the second book tentatively entitled A Tale of Two
Cities: Manhattan and Valletta when the COVID pandemic settles down.
VICTOR GRECH AND JEFFREY BUTTIGIEG
We have been intrigued by A Tale of Two Cities: Manchester and
Malta’s Grand Harbour since it appears to be an entirely novel
artistic endeavour.
The photographing pairing of two cities has hithertofore never been
attempted. In addition, it is perhaps timely that this was done entirely
using mobile phone camera hardware and phone software for editing.
These small machines are becoming increasing sophisticated and
powerful. Furthermore, the encapsulation of the events leading up to
the exhibitions in Malta and in Manchester as well as the exhibitions
themselves within the book makes this a very attractive repository.
Finally, the fact that this is a purely fund-raising initiative makes the
entire project extremely appealing.
We are given to understand that the upcoming project is A Tale of Two
Cities: Manhattan and Valletta and we sincerely hope that Prof. Grech
continues to find support in his work.
